We had the same issues last month our IKA doctor also a private GP wrote our IKA prescriptions by hand it took longer we waited a week before we could pick up our meds but he made sure we got them.

This month the same complicated by generics having to be used instead of pricier alternatives & the system going offline but our local pharmacy he works with issued the meds no problem.

You need to find an IKA Family General Practitioner in your area & stick with them once they know you they will bend over backwards to assist. Ask locals who they use & other ex-pats that is how we found a GP with integrity & dedication who cares.
There is an updated Price Bulletin published on April 10, 2012

http://www.sfee.gr/en/medicine-prices

without EKA or other insurance it can be difficult, many greeks are now going without vital medication even with EKA which typically discounts medicine so that you either pay 10 or 25% depending on the illness plus with austerity many drugs are no longer discounted

To obtain a prescription for a new pair of glasses, you need a prescription from an ophthalmologist, either at the hospital, either at a medical care center. There is no EOPYY-accredited ophthalmologist in your neighborhood, neither in Chania. There is no such thing as good or bad doctors; only those you like and those you don’t.

The doctors on the EOPYY list are all EOPYY-accredited, which means they all have the right to see IKA-insured patients, OPAD-, OAEE-, OGA- and TYDKY-insured patients, which are now, in fact, all EOPYY-insured patients.
The list mentions all private doctors; IKA-hospital doctors are automatically accredited (not necessarily private centers!).

As I said before, IKA and other books will be discarded for the benefit of EOPYY-books or cards. Since we are at the very beginning of this new National Health Service, people still have to use their old book.

To conclude: IKA-insured persons and foreigners who have a valid European Insurance Card receive free medical care, either at the hospital, either at a medical care center, either at a EOPYY-accredited doctor in private, mentioned on the EOPYY-list.
