Hello

We are moving to crete and my husband wants to drive over himself with our 'stuff'.  He will be driving from Northern Ireland.  He knows he will get a ferry to France and then a ferry from Italy, Vennice, to Athens etc....  The question is does anyone know the best and easiest route, can anyone give him some advice and tips????

We would be very grateful   Questioning   Exclaim

Hi Ron and Carol,

If you go to the top of the page and click on the link to the main BiC site (in red) then click "Getting Here" in the menu on the left of the page there's a route from the former site owner who did the trip seven times.

Also, you'll find a huge amount of route information on the Michelin site http://www.viamichelin.com.

We have also done the return trip once, a long way round to the UK and a much shorter one returning to Crete.

If you want an idea of our route (we avoided motorways/toll roads wherever possible) e-mail me and I'll let you have details.

Filippos.

On the Michelin site you can choose shortest/fastest/toll free etc., routes.

1st.Step England-France.Best bet at the moment could be Norfolk Line-Dover to Dunkerqe. 2nd. step head for Ancona. When you get there book ANEK to Patras, and onward from Pireus to Crete (10% saving) + it's the best boat. Make sure you take a northerly route through Lux and CH to avoid Rip Off France ( tolls + on the spot fines ). No point in crossing the Adriatic any further south, unless you want to indulge in indigenous ganster spotting. If you're a f*g head then Lux is the place - Remember, most of the time Booze doesn't travel - wait 'til you get here. Bon voyage.

..Filippe, Kalispera..again.. Well, I ll be driving to CRETE in late March/April, and I ll appreciate ALL the advise I can get..(bought my VAN ..yesterday..( Look in "items for sale"...)-trying to avoid..rip-off...transporters..!-Had a look at the MICHELIN site, but I m a great believer in advise fr anybody who actually DONE that..(note that I ll be towing a Boat too..)
-If you remember, I asked a few weeks ago about the Tax regime of bringing a Car there..Well, I decided the advise to buy one fr there..was the best-one..! -I ll be looking for a SUZUKI 6-8yrs old..(due to..building a House there..!) -If you hear of one -or something similar..) plse drop me a line..(drinks on me..!) -Also anyone leaving maybe,if need-be, swap for my VAN-(cash either side..) <takishajipavlis@yahoo.co.uk> ...drop me a line.. Takis.
