just a quick reply not 100% accuret as extremely busy today.

minoan total 585.70
i used first days of october as system not 100% updated with availability. the days i checked are 01/10 for venice - patra and 03/10 pireaus - heraklion (hour of arrival in patra on the 02/10 makes it imposible to go the same day from pir-her so u depart 03/10 from pireaus)

anek 596.50. i had to use september (still considered as high season) as again not updated with availability in october.
days i used are 02/10 and 04/10 (the days are correct as you arrive in patra on the 4th)

in both cases a AB2 cabin was used (that is an inside two person cabin) and a car up to 4.5m
for the 6m car i didnt try as busy.
i know its not a lot but you have an idea of what to expect

Regarding Scotland to Crete with the dog and trust with its pet passport.

Best North Sea ferry route from Scotland is: Rossyth to Zeebrugge in Belgium.

Another is:
Newcastle- Amsterdam (Ijmuiden)

A third is Hull-Rotterdam.

For those of you not aware of this, the main website of Brits in Crete -
http://www.britsincrete.net/default.htm contains oodles of useful information on expat living in Crete, with mainly the Brits and Irish in mind.

In this case of this land and sea route, two well documented pages cover travelling by road with chosen routes on Calais to Crete http://www.britsincrete.net/gettinghere.html and for the return route http://www.britsincrete.net/gettingthere.html. Admittedly they focus on the Calais connection, but it is easy to adapt to the other ports above as the routes chosen to and from Calais are really the most direct and with information costs and suggested overnight stays.

By the way, http://www.poscottishferries.com gives the Rossyth - Zeebrugge timetable.

http://www.aferry.to is a comprehensive ferries website for all over Europe.

Hope this helps

Thanks Gerald for that info it is very helpful.  Yes the dog has got his pets passport but the vet was saying that in some countries he has to have his Tick and Tape worm treatment any info on this would be most helpful

Hi Jan,
We have made the journey from/to the UK several times.  On the journey from the UK to Crete no-one ever asked us for any proof of tick/tapeworm treatment, however from Crete to the UK you will have to have proof of this at the ferry departure port and must have this done between 24 and 48 hours before boarding the ferry to the UK.  With regards to hotels - Holiday Inn  Express allow dogs.  We usually stay at the one in Lucerne - very pleasant and surrounded by grassy areas (don't need to point out the advantage of this when travelling with dogs!).

We always use Minoan ferries as we have found that their doggy facilities are better than other ferry companies, ie they have a 'dog village' on the top deck, and although your pets are in cages, they are roomy ones and are in an enclosed room so are sheltered from the elements and safe.

Good luck.
