i can only speak about setting a business up-It is very hard, the accountant tells you one thing and the information office we found the best for setting up small business (federation of small business The chamber of commerce)---Go to the local chamber of commerce where you are---I am told it is then even harder when you try to close your business down

It is possibly easier to try to get work, although this may be only seasonal

When we move over we will be working 24/7 during the season and doing nothing during the winter (unless both or one of us is lucky enough to find a job out of season).

Most of our friends (Brits & Cretans) work during the season, either in their own businesses or for someone else.  There are a couple who are retired and don't need to worry about working, they are just enjoying their retirement years!

Greece is a poor country with many rich people!!!

Shel   Don`t expect to come here to make a fast buck,  It is very hard work in the season and even harder in the winter

What were you expecting to do when here?  I believe many people see the roads paved with Euro`s.

Unless you have a brilliant, never seen before, sure to be a winner idea...forget it!

I have UK friends here who run Taverna`s and Cafe`s and they are scraping a living out of the tourists.

Just be very careful and as previous posts suggest  "Its bloody hard"

I think the only way to live comfortably here is if you have income from the uk. For the rest of us it is a struggle and you have to take whatever work is offered and that is always at very low rates of pay for very hard work. Don't take in animals as they just eat any money you earn!!

Hi, we changed our plans at the weekend, we are now selling our current house, buying a cheapy to do up in the area where we live, and buying a holiday home in crete so we will have the best of both worlds, i'm keeping my job, so is my husband, and we are having lots of holidays each year...

We are buying the crete house outright.......we are so much happier with this decision, the maybe one day, we will make the jump, but at least we will then have years to get used to the createn way of life..etc
