Hi Dawn,

Welcome to the Forum and to Aghios Nikolaos.

Our Neapoli Group meets every Thursday morning at Cafe Driros in Neapoli Square (on the corner of the street that comes out opposite the gardens above the big church) from 11:00am onwards for an hour or so.

Our First Wednesday meeting is at Barko Restaurant at Kitroplateia Beach in Aghios Nikolaos between 3:00pm and 5:00pm on the first Wednesday of every month.

Our Gardening Club meets at the taverna in Panaghia, Exo Lakonia, at 11:00am on the second Sunday of every month.

You don't need to be a member to attend any of these groups (though obviously we like it if you do decide to join!).

If you want to meet us privately for a coffee in Aghios Nikolaos just send us a PM (private message) and we'll reply with contact phone numbers. We're in Aghios most days.  Smiley

Regards,

Limnes, I have been on this site for a while now, only post when I have anything "interesting" to say that might help people but I get alot of good info from it.

I read your post to Dawn and I have to say this "what a nice person you are".  You seem to be overflowing with friendship and want to make people feel good, offer them info and advice and you dont want anything back apart from the same perhaps.

I think you're a nice guy, your wife undoubtedly is very proud of you - may you continue to live a happy and healthy life in Crete, spreading your kindness - there's not enough of you about.

Sandy, I could not agree with you more, Maurice is all you say but don’t underestimate “Mrs Limnes”. We came over searching last February and found a lovely house near Ag. Nic which we bought but then soon after a terrible tragedy happened.

I came over in July to sort out the house and met Maurice and Jan for the first time in Barkos for a coffee. They have been so helpful and supportive ever since and if it wasn’t for Jan’s help I would still be in one of the many queues trying to open up a bank account with a big No Smoking sign on the glass in front of me, but the clerks behind puffing away with full ash trays!

Thank you both Limnes.

Wow, we're blushing like mad and neither of us will be able to get out of the front door until we've had it widened!   Grin

Thanks for your kind remarks, but I must apologise to Dawn for being unable to be at Barko last Wednesday. As you will see from my reply to jonnysthedude in another thread, I spent all last week in Aghios Nikolaos Hospital, have been let out this afternoon for a few hours, and have to present myself at University Hospital, Heraklion, tomorrow morning. Once again, I can only speak good of a Crete hospital, the quality of the treatment I have received, and the friendliness of the staff.  Cheesy

Hopefully I'll be back in harness sometime next week when I'll give you a fuller report just for background information. Meanwhile, be good and have fun! Oh, and should I be delayed, good luck with your move B.Mused!  Smiley

Regards,

Maurice & Jan

Dear Maurice & Jan,

I do hope you are feeling better now and all goes well at the Heraklion hospital.
Theres no need to apologise for not being at Barko on wednesday, sometimes things happen that are out of our control. Your friends Peter and Wendy did you proud and i meet Vera and Peter also, what a friendly bunch of people and very informative to. I had a geat time with them all and many thanks to them for there company. Unfortunatly i wont be at the next meeting as i will be in the UK at the time but i will be sure to make it to the meeting in January.

Take care,

Dawn.  Smiley

Hi Dawn
We bought an apartment in the centre of Aghios almost two years ago and absolutely love it. We are only able to get out for holidays at the moment, but intend to move out there permanently eventually and I can't wait. You will find lots of friendly helpful ex-pats there as well as a lot of greek people who will make you feel very much at home.

One thing I would suggest though is to at least try and learn the language. I think there are classes for English people held throughout the winter which you may be able to piggy back onto; I'm sure someone on this forum will know where they are. It will enable you to get so much more out of life in Crete if you can communicate better to get things done and are able to mix with locals as well as Brits!
