As mentioned in a national newspaper, the Greek air traffic controllers are aiming to have 'rolling strikes starting at midnight on Saturday 24th July'.  This means that no air traffic incoming or outgoing will happen on Sunday 25th.  Of course this could change!!!  Apparently this is illegal but.............

Every time there has been disruption to air traffic recently, Easy Jet have canceled all Greek flights for the whole day even if the strike is only for a few hours.

At this moment, Easy Jet are still selling seats (LGW to HER).

If this 24 hour strike goes ahead it will be total chaos.

is this the article you saw?
from yesterdays ekathimerini
"Airport protests
Air-traffic controllers carried out a work-to-rule protest yesterday, causing delays for a number of flights as they observed strict limits on the number of airplanes that could be in Greek air space at any given time. The controllers are demanding better wages and the hiring of more staff but the government has said that it cannot meet their demands. The civil servants said that they would hold rolling 24-hour strikes as of Sunday, although such action by air-traffic controllers is usually deemed illegal in court and prevented from going ahead."

Update from todays same paper

Hi 'latsida', yes it was from Ekathimerini.  I am pleased to read the update and hopefully the airports (and my guests and also my cousin, who is coming here on Sunday) will not experience total closure and canceled flights.

Although I believe in standing up for ones rights etc etc the Greek strikes are hitting tourism.  Greece has enough problems at this time without making the tourists suffer.......... their revenue is much needed.

I think that if these strikes keep disrupting air travel then the tourists will give Greece a miss and go elsewhere.  Then there will be even less money in the kitty but I don't think they can see quite that far ahead!

Unfortunately, the Flight Stats page is generally not that precise.  When I have guests arriving I always check the time the flight left UK and then I can calculate approximately when it will arrive.

But, after the court ruling where the 24 hour strike is deemed illegal, it indicates that there will not be a 24 hour strike, just disruption where they are 'working to rule'.

http://www.enet.gr/?i=news.el.article&id=185965

Fingers crossed as I have incoming and outgoing and don't need the stress of a 24 hour strike!!!!

what if the time that they give at the departure airport is also "not that precise" as my returning flight was recently, then what do you do? Smiley
I also have a flight tracking widget on my dashboard that is also "not that precise" Smiley
I see the Brussels flight is with
TNT Airways
not too sure about that one Smiley

Generally latsida, the UK airports are as near as damned it with their information give or take a few minutes.  I always look in the morning when I have arrivals before 4pm and have to be at the airport.  At least it gives me a clue!!!!  Plus it is sooooooo much more accurate than the arrivals tv screen at the airport........now that is another story!!!!  xx

I am glad I don't deal with TNT airways..........

I think that you are over optimistic and maybe speak to soon.
According to the BBC the police, in Athens, are now using tear gas on the protesters.
Also the papers that are needed to enforce the law have to be served on the drivers......first find your driver.
If the drivers are served with the appropriate papers, how many trucks will suddenly develop mechanical faults.
