would only like to say that you must be careful while applying for any online banks. You must verify all its information and whether it is reliable or not.

The last two we received at home in the UK, one purpouting to be from RBS the other from M & S Money were reported to the relevant banks.

Neither of them was in the least bit interested in any kind of follow up concerning potential fraud!

These kinds of fraud mails have become very common. Just ignore these kinds of mail and report them as spam.

I find common sense works for me.  In the 36 years that I've been using banks I have never once received an email from them - so it seems obvious that they wouldn't have started to do it now, without some sort of notification other than email!  Delete, delete, delete!  Wink

Initial Simple Check for Suspected Fraudulent Banking E-Mail

I have been receiving on and off those "phishing" mails purported to be from my bank in UK.

I forwarded one of those dodgy looking e-mails showing the full headers (that shows the full routing along the Internet from sender to me) to my bank.

They advised two simple initial checks to know if an e-mail came from them. They said:

1. They never send an e-mail that requests a customer to link directly to their bank's website.

2. They always start an e-mail by addressing me by name. They point out that it would be unlikely that a fraudster would know such detail.

I am not sure this sounds entirely encouraging.

I always look at the originating e-mail address. And I always open up my e-mail program to show the full header list.

Anyone with other tips to check for fraudulent e-mails supposedly coming from banks?

Confucious may have said: "Don't be too easily hurt or offended. Take a deep breath. Count to 10. Log off and make a cup of tea, or a POT of tea. Don't answer until an hour from now, or tomorrow!"
