Just take the book in and it will be updated without any hassles. Take passport with you if necessary. But it is a relatively 'painless' event.

Take  AMKA number as well as passport and IKA book.

These days   AMKA number is needed.

If  you don`t have an AMKA number , go to your local KEP office ( like a town hall , council office ) and  ask for one.

Produce your   blue card, resident permit in other words, passport and IKA book.

The  AMKA sheet of paper will have  a row of  numbers on it, keep the sheet in your  IKA book at all times, or  write the  numbers down in your  IKA book,  all to do with tax.

I took my tax return for year 2010 (submitted in 2011) as the one for 2011 had not been done at the time, IKA book renewed OK.

Binx.... The AMKA number appears automatically on the new computer system and on the renewal certificate stapled in the IKA book, which should now be computer generated, as of early last year. So there shouldn't be any need to take the AMKA sheet of paper, if you already have an IKA book.

I beg to differ,  we were asked to produce the AMKA paper, insurance papers, IKA book and residents permit   February, luckily we have all the nessasary papers with us at all times when we have to go to IKA.

The AMKA number was on the front of  our books , but we still had to produce the official papers,  plus the Afeme which I thought was strange.

I did ask the kind  Greek  man helping us to sort it out, why we had to produce all sorts of papers this time and not before,  he said " you are English and these malakas will do this all the time".
he then went on to say " tell your  government  in England what a disgrace this country is " he actually shouted this out in front of everyone,  much to my  embarassment.

This seems to be another example of different documents wanted at different offices.

When I went to the KEP office in Kalyves to get AMKA numbers for hubby & me, I was asked for passports & tax number. The lady then gave me the AMKA print out & wrote the numbers on both IKA books.

When we went to renew our IKA books at he IKA office in Chania, all I was asked for were the books (obviously!) and a tax settlement certificate applying to my husband. We assumed that this was because he gets IKA cover as my dependant as he does not work and they wanted to make sure that was still the case. I took passports & tax number documents, but nobody was interested!

One hears a lot of negatives about the Greek Civil Service, but I'd like to say that I've found the ladies in the KEP office in Kalyves very helpful with excellent English.

Just like to second Kat's opinion.  The ladies in KEP Kalyves are always very helpful, as are the ones in Souda KEP.

Next year (if nothing changes!) we will take our IKA books to the KEP office and ask them to renew the books for us.

This year we went to the IKA offices, it was a long wait but we were only asked to provide the tax return form, nothing else.

Well... Have to say, end of Feb we just handed our IKA books over, a new certificate was stapled in, and job done with smiles!
