I thought I read that Carrefour (did i spell it right?) was selling its Greek business to its Greek JV partner. I would guess that in these difficult times Greek supermarkets need to reposition their offer to lower price brackets in order to continue to attach customers and remain profitable. Maybe that does not fit with Carrefour's business model.

I continue to be amazed that Greece cannot feed itself from its own output. I remember three years ago the owner of a large garden centre in Chania told me that much of the land had become uneconomic to farm because the farms were too small. He said that inheritance laws led to that and needed radical change. Becoming self sufficinet in food must surely be an important priority in Greece and very surely something that can be acheived. 

I for one will miss Carrefour discount items,  the cartons of tomato puree  are delicious,  the frozen garden peas are excellent,  such a shame  it is going.
